The Design

Inspired by nature’s most efficient structure, the honeycomb lattice covers every inch of the Hive shell.

The Build

CNC Machined Shell - 10-Ply Maple, 10-ply Cherry or Acrylic shell
Mass Reduction – Strategic machining lightens the shell and lowers the shell's fundamental resonant frequency
Machined Vents – The Robot logo features machining through the shell, letting the heads breathe freely.
Italian Leather Inlays – The Robot Logo is laser cut from Italian leather, then hand inlaid into the machined shell.
Brass or Composite Hardware – Robot Lug One lugs in machined brass or glass fiber reinforced composite available in multiple finish options. The brass lugs are high-mass and provide damping to reduce shell resonance, giving you a more EQ'd sound signature. The composite lugs are low mass and allow the drum to resonate more fully, maximizing the tonal qualities of the more resonant machined shell. Available with Trick Drums GS007AM Multi-step Throw Off or Robot TO-One composite throw off
Evans heads - Robot uses Evans drum heads exclusively. Evans consistently makes the best drum heads on the planet.

The Sound

Asanoha Series

The Design

Asanoha (麻の葉) is the timeless Japanese Buddhist pattern—six pointed stars that have symbolized strength, growth, and good fortune for centuries. Robot re-imagines this classic geometry in three dimensions, machining the lattice across the entire shell.

Kumiko Series

The Design

Shippo (七宝つなぎ) is one of Japan’s most enduring geometric motifs—interlocking circles that symbolize the Seven Treasures of Buddhist tradition: unending harmony, connection, and prosperity. When repeated, the quarter-circle geometry forms a seamless lattice that evokes petals, lantern-light, and infinite continuity.

Robot re-imagines this centuries-old pattern in three dimensions, machining the Shippo lattice across the entire shell. The result is a surface that flows with overlapping arcs and soft radiuses—precise, modern, and unmistakably Robot.

Kumiko (組子) is the ancient Japanese woodworking art of joining delicate geometric patterns without nails or metal. Robot translates this craft into precision CNC machining—interlocking lines and triangles carved directly into the shell, creating a lattice that shifts with the light.
